About Us

'Bhugol Swadeshcharcha' is not only first all India geography journal in Bengali language but also an alternative movement on the scope and content of geography in 21st Century from the inheritance of traditional geography pedagogy of Bengal. It was founded in December,2005 under the patronage of legendary geography Professor Subhash Ranjan Basu, University of Calcutta and has been published uninterruptedly for last two decades. The introductory identity was Bhugol EiSamai ( ভূগোল এই সময় ) and at present ( renamed ভূগোল স্বদেশচর্চা in 2007 ) the journal has a wide base of readers and contributors from different academic disciplines like economics, education, bengali, history, geomorphology, botany besides journalists and naturalists.

Bhugol Swadeshcharcha is generally published biannual ( June and December ) with the aim of liberal intellectual exchanges of geographical thought and ideas. This esteemed non-profit educational peer reviewed journal, on geography and related disciplines in vernacular languages, was included in the UGC-CARE list in 2020.

Ptolemy ( contributor of 'Guide to Geography', 2nd century ) defined geography as a representation in pictures of the whole known world together with the phenomena which are contained therein. The journal Bhugol Swadeshcharcha believes in the diversity of earth surface and associated harmonious cultural mosaic of mankind. Geography professors, teachers, scholars, even general students and many other interested people from other sections from India ( and Bangladesh also ) have been sharing their research experiences, field understanding, narrative on classical and contemporary issues of geography in augmented bengali language for more than twenty years.

The journal supports national priorities as well as the celebration of global humanity. We are not only committed for the sovereignty and accuracy of the map of our motherland India but also promote awareness among students for the same. Additionally, we observe 22nd February, birthday of 'Father of modern geography in India' Prof S.P. Chatterjee as National Geography Day every year. The journal always encourages socially acknowledged and community-oriented research publications from India and narrative on international issues with value free neutral objectives.

The main reason of the popularity of the Bhugol Swadeshcharcha journal is the presentation of the content in articulate bengali language. Every submission is reviewed and evaluated with care and organized practice, keeping the originality and emotions of the writings and published accordingly. We welcome different views as integral part of our intercultural understanding. Our values and policies are very much inspired by the century old International Geographical Union, most trusted global body of geographers and the outcomes of their Congresses organised every four years.
